7:31 Yet many of the crowd ¹  believed in him and said, “Whenever the Christ ²  comes, he won’t perform more miraculous signs than this man did, will he?” ³

19:15 Then they ⁴  shouted out, “Away with him! Away with him! ⁵  Crucify ⁶  him!” Pilate asked, ⁷  “Shall I crucify your king?” The high priests replied, “We have no king except Caesar!”

[7:31]  ² tn Or “the Messiah” (Both Greek “Christ” and Hebrew and Aramaic “Messiah” mean “one who has been anointed”).

[7:31]  ³ tn Questions prefaced with μή (mh) in Greek anticipate a negative answer. This can sometimes be indicated by using a “tag” at the end in English (here it is “will he?”).

[19:15]  ⁵ tn The words “with him” (twice) are not in the Greek text. Direct objects were often omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[19:15]  ⁷ tn Grk “Pilate said to them.” The words “to them” are not translated because it is clear in English who Pilate is addressing.
